Anger at SRC Positivity Week leads to name change

The SRC has decided to change the controversial name of its upcoming ‘Positivity Week’. The week will now be known as ‘Welfare Week’ after students voiced serious concerns.

The critics argued that the name ‘Positivity Week’ was dismissive and condescending to those dealing with mental health issues.

SRC Vice President Student Support, Jess Mc Grellis, in a piece for the Glasgow Guardian which announced the name change said:

“I am sorry for any offence caused by the choice of the name ‘Positivity Week’. This was not our intention. I believe that there has been a misunderstanding over the concept and objectives for the week, and this misunderstanding has been caused by a poorly-worded email sent out by us to all students.”
