Glasgow were able to celebrate double BUCS delight today as both the GURFC 1XV and Men’s Badminton Club won their BUCS Trophy finals. GURFC 1XV defeated Edinburgh 1XV 39-10 today in a pulsating final held in Bath to seal their first ever BUCS Trophy whilst the Badminton Club retained their title on Tuesday for the third year running with a 5-3 win over Bath.

GURFC exploded out of the traps during their final and raced into a twenty point lead by halftime and eventually coasted to a comfortable victory. The GURFC twitter account provided entertaining coverage of the game, with one of the tweets reading “1XV: OH. MY. WORD. Kerr Stoddart take a bow. He beats the blitz by firing a low flat kick to Harry who dots down. Conv good. 32-10.” They celebrated the victory by tweeting “1XV: FULL TIME AND THE BOYS HAVE DONE IT. HEROES TO A MAN!!!!”. It ensures that Glasgow secured the BUCS Trophy and League double for the first time in their history.

The victory in the final comes after Glasgow won the Scottish 1A BUCS League with just a solitary defeat in their ten matches; winning the other nine with a goal difference of plus 333. The momentous win is made more impressive by the fact that Edinburgh University play in the BUCS league above Glasgow and makes up for their disappointing loss in last week’s Taxis Cup, where they finished second to Strathclyde University after a 7-17 reverse in the deciding match.

Strathclyde returned once again to haunt the Rugby Club, as they defeated the GURFC 2s in the Conference Cup final by 15-5 to prevent Glasgow from making having it all their own way.

Elsewhere the Glasgow University Badminton Club Men’s team found their own BUCS success as they defeated the University of Bath 5-3 to retain their BUCS Trophy for the third year in succession. Following the result their official twitter account revealed their delight, tweeting: “Glasgow Uni men win the @BUCSsport Trophy for the third year in a row! #blackandgold #GUSAresults #bucsbigwednesday.”
