A night under the lights for the students of Glasgow
40 fighters, nine weeks, one sold-out venue. On 18 November, Glasgow Fight Night held a night to remember inside the SWG3 Warehouse with students from UofG, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian, and Glasgow School of Art being put through their paces on an intense boxing training course, preparing them for what must feel like a lifetime inside the ring. For some, it is an opportunity for a good night out, and for others, it is a challenge they have never experienced before.

Event manager, Evie, spoke about her thoughts on the long-awaited event.
“I really really would recommend it to anyone, it’s one of the best things I did at Uni, to the point where I now work for fight night. On the night, it is unbelievably nerve-racking for the fighters, but win, draw or lose, it’s always such a fun night. It’s so nice to have all your mates there, and the black tie aspect of the event really puts it over the edge. Everyone always gets so into it, and it’s just such a good night.”
“I predominantly do media and organisation for the night, and it’s pretty intense – I was really really nervous beforehand. I go to the gym three times a week with all the fighters and end up doing the match-ups at the end of it. It is always nerve-wracking seeing people you spend so much time with fighting each other, but I loved spending time with all of them. They were absolutely all wonderful people and such a great group this year, which makes my job so much easier.”

Putting yourself out there, in front of all your peers, and strangers from your University or sports club must be unnerving; but looking out to the crowd, although blinded by the lights, and seeing only handmade cardboard posters had to be a much-needed boost for the fighters in the ring before beginning a long and daunting 10 minutes.
Evie describes exactly what the 40 fighters put themselves through before they step foot into the ring.
“In terms of schedules, the fighters come to Kynoch Boxing Gym and have to come to three sessions a week for 9 weeks. Scott and Brian are our amazing coaches who train them up and get them fight-ready. It is very intense, and you definitely get put to work. The cardio is crazy. I did it a couple of years ago, and it’s a really great way to get fit and into, honestly, the best shape of your life. You also make so many friends.”
“Signing up is a nice structure to get into, it’s something to look forward to on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday – when training is. It’s also the most fun night you will ever have, so much adrenaline, I’ve never felt anything like that. The crowd is so up for it, and it’s just such a good night after the fight.”
All in all, Fight Night is a biannual event that is not to be missed. They host their next event at the same venue, in March 2026, with training starting in late January. So what are you waiting for? Sign up and prepare yourself for a night full of fights, fists, and future boxing champions.
