Students should make alternative travel arrangements as many routes connecting the West End are to be closed.
The Scottish Government is running a campaign to encourage the public to plan ahead for travel over the duration of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26, which is being held in Glasgow from 31 October-12 November. The scale of the event and the number of world leaders in attendance means that there will be road closures and disruption to travel. Due to the proximity of the West End to the Scottish Events Campus (SEC), where the conference is being held, students should make alternative arrangements and be aware of disruption to their usual routes while COP26 is taking place.
Pedestrian access will be maintained on Finnieston Street, Clyde Arc, and Lancefield Quay at all times however suggested alternate routes will be in place. For pedestrians and cyclists, from 23 October-15 November, there will be no access from Kelvinhaugh street, Castlebank street, Lancefield Quay, Clyde Arc, Ferry Road, Clydesway Express footbridge, M8 footbridge, and the Science Centre.
Several roads connecting the West End will be closed to drivers. The Clydeside Expressway will be closed from the Partick Interchange to Anderston from 23 October-15 November. Over this same period, Clyde Arc and Lancefield Quay will be closed.
Roads nearby to the SEC, including Congress Way; Finnieston Quay; Tunnel Street; Stobcross Road, and Castlebank Street, will shut from 17-23 October. Finnieston Street will close from 24 October-15 November, Minerva Street (with local access only) from 28 October-13 November and Congress Road 10 October-17 November. Congress Way, Finnieston Quay, Tunnel Street, Stobcross Road, and Castlebank Street will be inaccessible to vehicles from 17-23 October. The majority of the West End, covering Hillhead, Kelvingrove and Finnieston are highlighted as areas with a risk of congestion.
Public transport will also be busier than usual especially, during the morning rush hour, and bus and train commuters should plan to leave earlier than usual and check Traveline Scotland and ScotRail for updated train times and routes.
