Turnout low in SRC autumn elections

The Glasgow University Students’ Representative Council (GUSRC) declared the results of its autumn elections on Thursday 15 October, with a turnout of just 8.5 per cent. The average number of votes cast in the contested elections was 411 votes, which is down compared to the 2014 autumn elections, when the average number of votes cast in contested elections was 667.5 votes. The average number of votes cast in contested and uncontested elections was just 280 votes.

The highest turnout was in the general representative election, in which there were ten candidates for four vacant positions. 1574 votes were cast in total, and David Guthrie, Jenny Benson, Shereif Kholeif and Fatemeh Nokhbatolfoghahai were all duly elected. The lowest number of votes cast was for the vacant position of College of Arts postgraduate convenor, which Debbie White won with just 26 votes.
