Gigs to look out for this month

By Jeevan Farthing

Culture Editor Jeevan brings you the highlights of Glasgow’s music scene.

BILLY IDOL | OVO HYDRO | OCTOBER 21ST | FROM £88.00 Punk rock but make it borderline geriatric, Billy Idol is still going strong and performing at the Hydro.

ELLA HENDERSON | SWG3 | OCTOBER 17TH | FROM £94.00 Ella competed on the X Factor when she was only 16 but was nonetheless eliminated before Rylan. Still, with 16 million monthly listeners on Spotify and very limited availability despite the £94 tickets, she seems to have done okay in the end.

KENDRICK LAMAR | OVO HYDRO | NOVEMBER 2ND | FROM £52.30 Hip hop sensation, this is The Big Steppers tour, coming off the back of Lamar’s latest, and very successful, album.

MAGGIE ROGERS | O2 ACADEMY | NOVEMBER 1ST | FROM £29.40 Your typical Maggie Rogers fan probably lives in Finnieston and does not mind spending £8.00 for avocado on toast. Still, one has no choice but to condone a “feral joy tour”. Maggie is on the correct side of US politics.

MAXIMO PARK | O2 ACADEMY | OCTOBER 13TH | £30.25 Alternative rock band from “doon toon” and with a semi-erratic release schedule, this group can offer some fully unproblematic enjoyment.

NATALIE IMBRUGLIA | SWG3 | OCTOBER 18TH | £28.50 After appearing in the Neighbours grand finale, dressing up as panda on live television on six separate occasions *and* releasing new music all within the last year, Natalie has somehow found some time to perform live in Glasgow.

OLIVER HELDENS | O2 ACADEMY | OCTOBER 15TH | FROM £33.75 This future house pioneer is perfect for letting off steam on a Saturday night.

ROBBIE WILLIAMS | OVO HYDRO | OCTOBER 24TH-26TH | FROM £63.25 If only Ed Miliband lived in Glasgow, you might not be the most enthusiastic individual in the Hydro when Angels inevitably plays.

SUGABABES | O2 ACADEMY | NOVEMBER 7TH | FROM £46.25 Push the (slay) button, the *original* Sugababes are back on tour, and Glasgow is their very last stop. If the overcrowding at their Glastonbury set is anything to go by this one will be a belter. Your Culture Editor will be going nuts in the front row.

THE PRETTY RECKLESS | BARROWLANDS | OCTOBER 26TH | £30.25 Hard rock from New York, with Taylor Momsen at the helm.

TOVE LO | SWG3 | NOVEMBER 1ST | £30.95 It seems the prices for this gig won’t stay high all the time. Further your mid-week blues with sob-inducing ‘sad girl’ content, which Tove Lo does exceptionally well.

WILL YOUNG | SEC ARMADILLO | OCTOBER 12TH | FROM £49.95 Certified heartthrob who somehow remains endearing despite spending a considerable amount of time at Arts Ed in Chiswick. It’s actually twenty years since he won the first series of Pop Idol, so there’s no better time to go and see him live.
