Andy Murray will be coaching Novak Djoković, after 25-years long sport opposition
Glasgow-born Andy Murray is entering a new phase in the tennis world. Murray retired from professional tennis during the 2024 Paris Olympics after a storied career that included 46 singles titles and 3 doubles titles. On 23 November, Novak Djoković, widely regarded as the best tennis player in the world, shared a video on his Instagram in which he reflected on his 25-years rivalry with Murray. At the end of the video, Djoković made a surprising announcement: “Welcome aboard, coach Andy Murray,” signaling the beginning of a fresh chapter in their relationship.
Since 2006, Murray and Djoković have gone head to head 36 times in their professional careers.
Commenting on his new role, Murray said: “I’m very excited about it and I am looking forward to being on the same side of the net for a change. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to assist him in achieving his goals for the coming year.”
In 2025, Djoković will be “chasing” his 100th singles title. He recently fell short in his first attempt at the ATP 250 Brisbane International. Nevertheless, with the help of his new coach, Murray, he has developed a training plan for the upcoming Australian Open, which includes video analyses of his main opponents.
